Alessia specialises in industrial landscapes. Her work is made from fragments of different spaces and buildings, which, sketched, memorized and photographed, are then assembled in the form of a drawing or a painting, onto canvas, board or paper. Her work is usually monochromatic, using contrast and line to explore light, atmosphere and movement. She likes to think of her paintings/drawings as windows of space and light which the viewer can walk into, and which emanate energy and movement.
In 2004 Alessia won the Hugh Casson prize for drawing together with Paula Rego and Frank Auerbach. Her work is in public and private collections on both sides of the Atlantic, including ITV television, BP, London, Homan, Fenwick & Willan , London, Yolles, London. |
